What is the best way to get a used spare tire?

February 28th, 2010 | by admin |

My spare tire is the original one and it is so old that it is getting dry rotted. I have a ’97 dodge caravan. Even if I can only get a regular, extra tire to have in case I need a spare. It would take up more space in the back but at least I would have a spare.

go to a junkyard. they can sell you a good used spare tire. or they will also be willing to sell you a steel rim for cheap that matches your vehicle.

I would recommend getting the full size steel rim and just put a new tire on it for cheap from walmart. dodge caravan uses a standard size 15″ tire and they are usually $30 plus $7.50 mount/balance at walmart…and you can shop while its being done or just drop it off and come back for it.

new tire is always better than used.

Barbra, you should NEVER use a USED tire, either as a regular tire or as a spare. I know you can find shops all over the place that buy and sell used tires, but putting a used tire on your car is like playing Russian Roulette. You have no idea what condition that used tire is in, or how many times it’s been patched up, or if it was stored in the sun and ready to fall apart due to weathering. You really need to invest the few extra bucks in a brand new spare tire. In fact, your car’s owner manual will tell you that once you’ve used a spare tire for any amount of travel distance, that you should replace it with a brand new one immediately.

I hope, for your sake, and the sake of the lives of the other people in your car, that you take this advice.

Go to your nearest Goodyear store and tell them to check your spare. If its bad, replace the tire with a cheap used tire. Your cost about $12
