How do you remove a spare tire from the bottom of a 1997 Dodge caravan?

I’ve read the manuals and searched the internet, but I still can’t manage to get the spare tire off the bottom of the car. Are there any tricks that I’m missing? Please help.

The spare tire on the caravan is locked into place on the bottom of the van by 5 lugnuts and a spring loaded locking device. Sipmly remove the 5 lugnuts with a tire iron, then pull down to attempt to release the tire. It will come down an inch or so. That will allow you to sneak your hand up and press the latch that will release the tire from it’s holding place.

    good luck

Open the rear hatch and look straight down for something that looks like a large bolt head. Your lug wrench will fit on it. Turn it counterclockwise to lower your spare tire. Reverse to raise it.

There should just be a cranking mechanism to the upper right of your license plate. use your spare tools and turn it counter-clockwise to lower it and clockwise to raise it.
