Hair Loss On Cats Legs

Why is my cat chewing / scratchingthe hair off of the inside of his front legs?
My cats seems very itchy lately. He has gnawed most of the hair off the inside of his front legs and continuse to bite at them and lick/scratch himself a lot. The vet said no fleas or mites ( she supposedly did a “skin scrape” on his legs to check for mites or something.) So, basically the vet has no good answer or solution. The cat never liked to be brushed / scratched much and now he runs over to where the brush is when I come home every day. I feel bad that he’s itching so much and cannot find an answer. His food has not changes, nor his environment so I’m at a loss.
Surprisingly your vet should continue to investigate the cause of this licking/scratching. Even though you have not changed his food, he may have developed an allergic reaction to an ingredient. Have you changed litter? Again, he could be allergic to an ingredient in that litter. Most litters contain silica which can be a cancer causing agent. I use World’s Best Litter ~ Original formula. The one for multi cat has alfalfa which caused a very bad reaction with one of my cats. The original formula is best….and the product is 100% natural. Your cat, too, may have a dry skin condition such as humans get. Since your cat likes to be brushed now, it probably is soothing to him from the itching. One of my friends had a cat that continually chased his tail and licked it to the point of bleeding. Their vet wanted to put the cat down. I had her go to my vet and it seemed it was a compulsion disorder. The tail was removed due to the injury, and the cat is now fine. If your vet cannot help, get a second opinion. If you have a vet allergist specialist in your area, they surely will be able to help. Good luck!
